Choosing an IIT JEE Maths home tutor in Gurgaon: what to check in the demo class

A tutor's CV says very little about how they teach. Six things to watch for in the free demo class, and the questions worth asking before you commit.

The demo class tells you more than any CV. Watch whether the tutor lets your child attempt the problem first, whether they ask "why?" after a wrong answer, and whether they know the exam your child is actually sitting. Those three things predict more than years of experience or a degree.

Hand-drawn clipboard checklist for a JEE Maths demo class: lets the student try first, asks why after a wrong answer, knows this exam's pattern, same tutor and fixed weekly slot, has a plan when a chapter doesn't land, shows progress chapter by chapter
Six things to watch in the demo class — the lesson, not the CV.

1. Does the student attempt first?

A tutor who solves every question while the student watches is giving a lecture, not a lesson. In a good session the student writes first, and the tutor watches the working closely enough to see where the method went wrong.

2. What happens after a wrong answer?

Listen for "why did you choose that method?" rather than "no, do it this way". JEE Maths rewards choosing the right approach under time pressure, and that skill is only built by being asked to explain a choice.

3. Do they know this exam?

JEE Main, JEE Advanced, BITSAT and the CBSE board paper each ask Maths differently. JEE Main has 25 Maths questions — 20 multiple choice and 5 numerical, all compulsory — marked +4 for right and −1 for wrong. A tutor who knows that will talk about accuracy and question selection, not just topics. The JEE Main Maths guide covers the pattern in detail.

4. Same tutor, same slot, every week

One-to-one tuition works only if the tutor knows where the student got to last week. Ask whether the same tutor will come every week at a fixed time, and what happens when a class is missed — it should simply be rescheduled.

5. What if a chapter does not land?

Ask directly. A good answer sounds like a plan: go back to the prerequisite chapter, re-teach with a different approach, set a short check a week later. A tutor who says it never happens has either not taught long or not noticed.

6. How will you show progress?

By chapters, not hours. After a month the tutor should be able to name the chapters that were weak and are not any more, and show the questions that prove it.

Practical questions for Gurgaon families

  • Where will classes happen, and can the slot work around school and coaching?
  • Will the tutor follow the coaching material, or bring their own?
  • If the fit is wrong, how quickly can you change tutor?
  • What is the fee for your class and number of sessions?

We teach at home across all of Gurgaon — including Golf Course Road and the sectors around our Sector 53 office — and if the first tutor is not the right fit, we match another. See Maths home tutor in Gurgaon.

Questions parents ask

Is the demo class really free?

Yes. It is a full session with no obligation, so the student and the tutor can both judge the fit.

Should we choose an IITian?

A strong degree helps, but how the tutor teaches in the demo matters more. Use the six checks above.

What are the fees?

Fees depend on the class or exam, how many sessions a week and the tutor's experience. Message us the requirement and we will give you the real range for it.

Tell us the class and your sector — we'll match a Maths tutor and set up the demo.
